How We Compare
KINGSTON, NY (August 15, 2016) A Special Report on the Mid-Hudson Region recently released by New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli highlights the area’s prosperity and further defines Ulster County as it compares to six other neighboring counties.
“It is encouraging to see that our County’s median income is on par with the rest of New York State and that our area’s unemployment rate has plummeted,” stated Ulster County Comptroller Elliott Auerbach.
The demographic indicators demonstrate income, education, housing costs and poverty rates and also include utility costs, property tax comparisons, home values and commuting time. In addition, the economic profile goes as far as measuring up the City of Kingston against the eleven other cities in the region.
Ulster County has only 3 of the 81 villages and 20 of the 105 towns that comprise the Region, yet it is the geographically largest county (1,124 square miles) of the seven that define the area.
