2021 Ulster County Emergency Housing Snapshot

Kingston, NY (October 12, 2021) –Ulster County Comptroller March Gallagher today released an Emergency Housing Snapshot documenting aspects of emergency shelter in Ulster County. Ulster County provides emergency shelter for individuals and families through emergency shelters operated by Family of Woodstock and a network of 15 Ulster County motels that accept emergency shelter placements from the Ulster County Department of Social Services. Emergency shelter costs in 2020 totaled $3.8 million and were paid in part by funding from New York State through Family Assistance(39%), Safety Net Assistance(18%), Emergency Assistance to Adults (<1%), with the remainder (43%)borne by Ulster County taxpayers ($1.6 million).Family Assistance and Safety Net are not available for permanent housing…
