Press Release from the Office of the Ulster County Comptroller Re: 2023 Sales Tax Allocations

Ulster County Shared $26.4 Million of 2023 Sales Tax Revenues with the Local Municipalities Within its Borders

Kingston, NY (September 9, 2024) – Ulster County Comptroller March Gallagher released the 2023 Sales Tax Sharing Report showing the total sales tax payments made by Ulster County to the towns, villages and the City of Kingston that are situated within the County.

The City of Kingston received $19,573,437 in sales tax payments for 2023, representing the greatest share of the sales tax payments that Ulster County shares. The Towns of Woodstock, Saugerties, and Ulster received the greatest share of the 4% of 2023 sales tax revenues that Ulster County shares with the towns and villages located within its borders.

“Sales tax revenue sharing with local municipalities helps Ulster County’s towns and villages provide critical services for residents,” said Comptroller March Gallagher.. We believe that this report will inform the public as well as County and City decision makers as they look to renegotiate the sales tax sharing agreement that set to expire in February of 2026.”
