Comptroller’s Office Expands Capacity: Comptroller Appoints New Deputy Comptroller

Kingston, NY (March 4, 2021) – Ulster County Comptroller March Gallagher announces the appointment of a new staff member in the Comptroller’s Office.

Comptroller Gallagher has appointed Alicia DeMarco to the position of Deputy Comptroller. Ms. DeMarco is a Certified Public Accountant and has more than ten years of accounting experience. She began her career in public accounting, providing tax compliance and consulting services to a wide variety of industries with an emphasis on corporate taxation and employee benefit plan auditing. Additionally, Alicia spent four years gaining experience in municipal government, serving as the Director of Audit and Control for Ulster County. Alicia is a life-long resident of the Hudson Valley and is an active community member. She has a passion for internal auditing within the public sector and brings both private and municipal experience to the Office.

“Alicia DeMarco brings both professional certification as a CPA as well as strong county audit experience. During my first year as Comptroller I found myself reviewing her previous work in our files and I was impressed. We advertised and interviewed widely for the position and Alicia was by far the strongest candidate,” stated Comptroller Gallagher. “She brings smarts, acuity, and determination, but in addition to all those qualities, she is deeply supportive of our mission as stewards of public resources.”

Ms. DeMarco holds an MBA and a BS in Accounting from SUNY New Paltz. Additionally, she is affiliated with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, NYS Government Finance Officers Association, and is a Certified Public Accountant in New York State.
