“Sales tax revenue sharing with local municipalities helps Ulster County’s towns and villages provide critical services for residents,” said Comptroller March Gallagher.. We believe that this report will inform the public as well as County and City decision makers as they look to renegotiate the sales tax sharing agreement that set to expire in February of 2026.”
The report presents data on how much sales tax revenue neighboring counties share with their local municipalities. Delaware, Greene, and Sullivan Counties share none of their sales tax revenues whereas Columbia, Dutchess and Orange Counties share more than Ulster County with their municipalities. The report also contains data showing how a shift from using full assessed value to using population as the allocation criteria would impact the distribution of sales tax revenues to the towns and villages.
